Astelia chathamica, a native species of the Chatham Islands, is one of the most distinctive species of Astelia available. It is often marked as A.chathamica ‘Silver Spear’. The broad flax like leaves have a silvery sheen and can be up to 2m long, rather erect and drooping towards the ends. Overall plant height is up to 1.5m. It will grow in sun or semi-shade and prefers a rich soil but can tolerate some dryness. Stunning as a feature plant, for massed planting or as a container plant.
