Pratia angulata (panakenake, babies tears)
Pratia angulata, commonly known as panakenake, is a creeping mat-forming plant found throughout New Zealand in damp areas from sea level to 1300m. It has small rounded leaves and flowers for a long period from spring. The small flowers are white with dainty flaring petals and are followed by reddish purple berries. A vigorous groundcover for a damp area in sun or semi-shade. P. arenaria is a rather similar species found in damp shady places on the Chatham Islands, Antipodes Islands and in northeastern Otago.
