Innovation

The Waimahia Inlet development is in a beautiful coastal setting with parks and landscaped reserves facing the Manukau Harbour on the Weymouth Peninsula. This development has been undertaken through the formation of a partnership between the Tamaki Collective, The Maori Trustee, CORT Community Housing and the New Zealand Housing Foundation. These not-for-profit organisations were dedicated to providing affordable housing for families in this great location and Kauri Pak were privileged to work alongside HEB Construction in undertaking the landscaping aspect of this development. Alongside house lot landscaping, over 35,000 native plants were used in coastal reserves and wetland plantings. Being planted in a coastal situation it was of all importance that these plants were strong and hardy and able to withstand the conditions, making Kauri Park a natural supplier. The growing areas at the nursery are exposed to almost constant winds, subjecting the plants to a touch environment before they are shipped to the market. This is a key factor assisting with adaptation to their new environments after transplanting and to their long-term hardiness and health.

Shared Success

Kauri Parks primary focus on this project was to ensure the plant quality was at a very high standard to minimize plant mortality rates and replanting costs. Kauri Park was also very aware that plant deliveries needed to be accurate and timely to ensure no down-time for the planting crews, focusing on these two objectives made for a seamless experience for our clients

The plantings at Waimahia have established incredibly well and add a natural and cultural quality to the development.
